Experimental clues of soft glassy rheology in strained filled elastomers

Tensile stress-relaxation measurements have been performed on a series of cross-linked filled elastomers. The fillers are chosen in order to investigate the effect of the filler-filler and the filler-matrix interactions on the time dependence of the tensile relaxation modulus after UP and DOWN jumps. For the carbon black filled sample (strong filler-elastomer interaction) decreases as log(t) wh...

A concept of polymeric networks with sliding junctions for the time-dependent response of filled elastomers

Constitutive equations are derived for the time-dependent behavior of particlereinforced elastomers at isothermal loading with finite strains. A rubbery polymer is modelled as a network of macromolecules bridged by junctions which can slip with respect to the bulk material under straining. A filled elastomer is thought of as an ensemble of meso-regions where sliding occurs with different rates....

Effects of Carbon Black and the Presence of Static Mechanical Strain on the Swelling of Elastomers in Solvent

The effect of carbon black on the mechanical properties of elastomers is of great interest, because the filler is one of principal ingredients for the manufacturing of rubber products. While fillers can be used to enhance the properties of elastomers, including stress-free swelling resistance in solvent, it is widely known that the introduction of fillers yields significant inelastic responses ...

Finite viscoelasticity of filled rubbers: experiments and numerical simulation

Constitutive equations are derived for the viscoelastic behavior of particle-reinforced rubbers at isothermal loading with finite strains. A filled rubber is thought of as a composite medium where inclusions with high and low concentrations of junctions between chains are distributed in a bulk material. The characteristic size of inhomogeneities is assumed to be small compared to the dimensions...

Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Soy Protein Filled Elastomers

Dynamic mechanical properties including temperature effect, stress softening, and Payne effect are studied on the elastomer composites filled with soy protein or carbon black. The comparison of protein composite with well-known carbon black composites provides further insight into the protein composites. The elastomers filled with soy protein aggregates give substantial reinforcement effect whe...
